Adult Learning Leadership Team

PURPOSE

The Adult Learning LT (ALLT) exists, in the power of the gospel, to disciple Redeemer’s members, other Christians and seekers of Christ in Knoxville in the way of the Lord. Disciple-making is to teach Christ and his gospel, with its many applications, so that people become lifelong followers and servants of Jesus, while he is transforming them into his likeness. Thus, the ALLT remembers one of Redeemer’s guiding principles: that God is always at work in the lives of his people, that he who began a good work in us will complete it on the day of Christ Jesus. The ALLT will seek to fulfill this purpose using three avenues: prayer, vision and implementation.

PRAYER

The ALLT will pray: —> that the people of Redeemer Church and the people of the city of Knoxville would come to know the height and the depth, the breadth and the width, of the love of God in Christ Jesus. —> that we would learn to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength in response to God’s love for us in Christ and that we would learn to love others because Christ has first loved us. —> that Redeemer would faithfully teach the whole counsel of God with the gospel of Christ as its center and that our members and the people of the city would receive and cherish it, learning to take every thought captive to Christ.

VISION

The ALLT will interface with the LLT, the Advisory Team and the MMT and WMT both to receive and to help shape Redeemer’s vision for the spiritual formation through the power of the gospel of our adult members and other adult Christians and seekers in Knoxville. —> The ALLT will not seek to teach people to learn about Christ but to teach them to learn Christ himself, what it means to be loved by him and to love him and others in return. —> The ALLT will study and create paths to teach Christ and his love, such as through classes, seminars, special events, sports and arts, small groups, mentoring relationships, mission trips and service opportunities, etc. While pursuing these paths, the ALLT will remember one of Redeemer’s guiding principles: a commitment not to be a program-driven or program-saturated church, but to allow ministry to take place naturally and relationally. —> The ALLT will seek to help men and women see their need for lifelong learning of Christ and his world, to gain a love for learning and to realize that all learning is application of learning Jesus and his gospel, and therefore all learning is great joy.

OVERSIGHT

The ALLT has the following oversight and responsibility: —> The ALLT will continually implement and refine new paths for learning for adults at Redeemer and in the city of Knoxville (see Vision above). —> The ALLT will work with the LLT, the MMT and WMT to create and implement any courses for men and women in Redeemer’s School of Discipleship. —> The ALLT will work with the LLT, the Advisory Team and the Finance & Budget Ministry Team in setting the Adult MT budget for each ministry year. —> The ALLT will be active in recruiting new members to their team and improving communication with those currently involved. As they do so, they will keep in mind one of Redeemer’s guiding principles: every member in the body of Christ has important gifts for ministry to share with the body and to give to the city. —> The ALLT will work together with the Men’s and Women’s Ministry Teams as it seeks to implement paths for ministry and learning.
