PURPOSE
The Music & Audio Ministry Team (MAMT) exists, in the hope and power of the gospel, to honor God – Father, Son and Spirit – and encourage his people through song in our services of gathered worship, and beyond. The MAMT exists to help the people of Redeemer fulfill this biblical calling: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly … as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.” (Colossians 3:16) The MAMT exists to ensure that the people of God hear the word of God, whether it is read, preached, or sung. The MAMT will seek to fulfill its purpose through three avenues: prayer, vision and implementation.
PRAYER
The MAMT will pray, individually and collectively, for the gospel to dwell richly in the hearts of Redeemer’s people and the people of Knoxville through song. The MAMT will pray specifically: —> that the gospel of Christ would run and be glorified in our midst as we sing it to one another. —> for God to be honored through our singing as we look to him alone to save us and fulfill us. —> for transformed lives and the renewal of the city as the gospel dwells in us richly because we have sung it again and again to each other. —> that people will be able to clearly and comfortably hear to the benefit of their souls in the worship services.
VISION
The MAMT is continually casting Redeemer's vision: —> The MAMT will interact with the Worshipping Leadership Team, the various other Worshipping Ministry Teams and the Advisory Team to receive and to help shape Redeemer’s vision for gospel worship through song. —> Because the gospel is the oldest thing in the universe – it is a deep magic that existed before the dawns of time (CS Lewis) – Redeemer will keep and relish the ancient songs and hymns of the faith. Because the gospel is the newest thing in the universe – ever breaking out with the renewing power and joy of the new heavens and the new earth – Redeemer will look for new songs to sing, of the Lord and of his Christ. The MAMT will therefore treasure the old and the new musically, listening for new instruments and new sounds to bless the people of God.
IMPLEMENTATION
The MAMT has the following oversight and responsibility: —> Working with the LMT, the MAMT will help select and will lead the music in the regular and special worship services of the church. —> The MAMT will serve as the steward over the Redeemer hymn directory, adding and deleting hymns, songs and spiritual songs as they see fit, in conference with the LMT and the Worshipping Leadership Team. The team will get this directory into the hands of Redeemer’s people, that we might sing the gospel continually. —> The MAMT will look for new music and new musicians, and will assist the Worship Leadership Team, the Advisory Team, and the Team of Church Planters in the search for staff musician(s). —> The MAMT will work with the Worshipping Leadership Team, the Advisory Team, and the Finance & Budget Ministry Team in setting the MAMT budget for each ministry year. —> The MAMT will run the sound at each worship service and special event through a rotating team of sound volunteers/staff, upgrading our sound equipment and hiring staff and consultants as desired and needed, in accord with the Ministry Team budget. —> The MAMT will always be looking to involve more and more people in serving in the worship service and will regularly recruit new members to its team.
